This year's topic is climate change. There is so much I could write in response to this, but I think I'd rather just share a picture.
The photo below was taken from Mars. It shows the Earth and the moon.
Home.
The original, in which you can see Jupiter, is here. Do look. It's incredible.

Help

Isn't She just precious?
The insignificant is awesome at times, isn't it!!! To think that we dare to exist at all in the black shroud of space is mind-boggling.

Climate Change is the consequence of the disappearance of trees all around the world !!! It has to become a law : ” for every tree cut , another sapling should be planted !!! ” Also polluting industries should be heavily fined or even forced to close !!! Something also must be done against wastage of natural resources , many of which , are fast dwindling , specially water !!!
Children should come to the forefront of saving the world - after all , it will be they that are going to inherit TOMORROW ' s BLEAK WORLD !!!
makes me feel like a who down in whoville. ;-)
Yeah, that's a good image, down in Whoville!!! (Interesting to read the link to Wikipedia. The metaphor is so metaphysical, but he intended it to be the U.S. and Japan….. Interesting!)
What a perspective!! When we get upset, this could calm us down a bit, eh?
I didn't quite get the larger image. Is the large light dot at the bottom Jupiter, and the smaller light dot further up Earth, and the moon isn't visible in that photo?
Yes, thank you for sharing this, Siona. One can go so many places, emotionally, with this perspective on “climate change.”
Love, OM Bastet
sandi: Precious, yes, and so bright and so brave and so unfathomably intelligent.
This reminds me of Carl Sagan's words, about how extraordinary it is that all human history, everything we know and have ever known, took place on that little blue sphere. It's incredible.
Gemstar: Yes, there's something to that incredible paradox. I feel it too. Somehow the black shroud of that photo feels very safe to me, though, as though the Earth is resting, lovingly, on some warm and velvety blanket….
gmt: As long as I am alive, I shall plant trees. I don't think it's possible to get too old to give that gift.
synonymforlight: That was one of my most favorite books when I was little. :)
1Vector3: If you download the bigger photo, you'll see not just that the moon is visible (and yes, you did describe the orientation), but both the moons around Jupiter as well. (Or try clicking it once it appears in your browser, and scroll down. The large version is truly breathtaking.)
And yes, that was my hope. I don't see how it's possible to remain upset or angry when looking at that glorious little blue sphere. That's us. That's it. That's all we have. I'm not sure I'm capable of feeling anything but love in response.
Vastly amazing… it proves anything less than just love could be placed on the head of a pin -
I am actually speechless. So I am going to sit here and look at that picture.
Thank you for posting this.
Liza
It certainly is impressive & leaves me in awe..
Here's the same shot at a different resolution. Click image for a larger view.

I have been thinking about this picture since you posted it. I am having my Horton hears a who moment…..the only thing is am I Horton or am I Who?
Maybe we are all both:)
Either way it makes me feel like I want to protect her….We are all somewhere on that little blue dot. Imagine that.
If my arms were big enough Siona I would wrap them around her. But thus far Its my heart that is and so I will continue to do my part and the best that I can.
Thank you.
KES: Oh, beautiful. Yes, what perspective, hm?
Fastdart: Thank you. :)
Liza: I know exactly what you mean. Can you imagine that everything we can conceive of, everything we know, took place on that tiny, brilliant speck? I become almost paralyzed with love and that same desire to protect, to cherish, to love. You're so welcome, and I'm glad our times here overlapped.
“This reminds me of Carl Sagan's words, about how extraordinary it is that all human history, everything we know and have ever known, took place on that little blue sphere. It's incredible.”
Carl Sagan was my childhood hero and I still remember him as one of the greatest influences on my life.
